When I started at SJSU, I wish I had known . . . that being in college is a lot like entering a professional environment. Many times, our classmates and friends will be the people we work with in the future so it's always good to work together to help each other out and do your best on school assignments as if they were something trusted to you on a job. At the same time, I'd also keep in mind that school is still a safe place to experiment with new ideas and that making mistakes firsthand is the best way to learn because it lets you know and remember what needs to be fixed.

My best strategy for student success is . . . to set up a system for getting out of your comfort zone. Big assignments can be split up into parts such as creating an outline, first draft and final version for a paper on separate days so it doesn't become too overwhelming. Good habits can also be started very small, such as simply deciding to show up at the gym on certain days and can be gradually grown bit by bit everyday.

When I started at SJSU, I wish I had known . . . that I do not need to have my life perfectly planned out yet. College is the time to make connections, meet new people, experience new things, change our minds, and move out of our comfort zones so that those things will bring us closer to deciding what kind of future we want to have.

My best strategy for student success is . . . time management. It is a perfect way to make sure that there is a time for everything important. Whether it is for studying, work, social events, and/or leisure it is a great organizational skill to have in college.

My best strategy for student success is . . . reading the chapters/sections before attending the lecture on them is very helpful. It allows you to enter the lecture while already being familiar with the material. It also gives you the opportunity to come up with questions ahead of time that you may need to ask if they are not answered during the lecture.

My best strategy for student success is . . . don't procrastinate. Don't. Don't even think about that 1 hour episode on Netflix, because mindless procrastination will turn into a 8 hour TV marathon. We've all been there. If it helps, try making little schedules, and yes, you can carve out specified little 1 hour study breaks in the middle.

My best strategy for student success is . . . make sure to ask questions during class! So many times students have things they don't understand, but they won't speak up in class or go to office hours. Also, I wish I had known which classes I have to take in order to graduate on time and which professors would best suit my interests and understanding.

My best strategy for student success is . . . it is really important that you're passionate and interested in what you pursue in college. A lot of practice and time management also helps to perform well in your classes. Another strategy that I follow is having goals and challenging yourself to work harder. Homeworks or tests assigned to you may or may not be challenging but trying to push yourself will result in better academic results and personal growth. Lastly, whatever you learn, try to teach it to someone who doesn't know anything about the topic. Teaching a subject always strengthens your own understanding of the subject.
