Tips on Improving your Writing

  1. Schedule a specific time to sit down and write.
  2. Choose a place where you can concentrate and are most comfortable.
  3. Make sure that you understand the assignment. If not, ask your professor to explain it.
  4. Create an outline for your paper.
  5. Consider writing your introduction and conclusion last.
  6. Support your statements and opinions with facts and examples.
  7. Make sure your paragraphs relate to your thesis statement.
  8. Have clear topic sentences that explain the purpose of each paragraph.
  9. Vary sentence length.
  10. Have other people proofread your papers.
  11. Read your paper aloud to find errors.
  12. Cite your sources.
