When I started at SJSU, I wish I had known . . . to utilize professors' office hours. Everyone learns at a certain pace, so if there is something you didn't quite understand, office hours are there for you. Professors are there to help and the more you go to visit them, the more comfortable you will be with the class material.

My advice to fellow students to help them succeed is . . . talk to as many people as you can. Establishing foundations with classmates, TAs, or even professors will benefit you in the future. Whether it's needing help for a class or getting introduced to a new hobby, meeting more people will broaden your horizons as a college student.

My advice to fellow students to help them succeed is . . . view college as one of many experiences in life you will face. Although studying is important, it is important to make time for yourself - to take a breather and refresh your mind. If things don't work out as exceptionally as planned, don't stress too much and don't give up on your overall goal. Take it at the pace you can handle and you will eventually reach your destination!

Yen Huynh

Computer Science

When I started at SJSU, I wish I had known . . . that GE classes aren't so bad after all. Though it is a hassle trying to get into certain classes to fulfill your lower division requirements, you might actually find some classes to be inspiring and fun to learn more about. Don't let your major define what classes you should take, but take classes that interest and motivate you.

My advice to fellow students to help them succeed is . . . to not let your fear of asking others questions dictate your college experience. Be ready to ask and seek others for help on class assignments or advice on life when you feel confused or alone. Whether it is your friends, professors, or tutors from Peer Connections, you won't realize how helpful, nice and supportive they are until you talk to them.

Joara Jimenez

Child and Adolescent Development

When I started at SJSU, I wish I had known . . . that I did not need to have everything planned out and that making mistakes is perfectly okay. This is a time in which we all learn from our mistakes and grow as individuals. College is a learning experience for everyone.

My advice to fellow students to help them succeed is . . . to balance time between self-care and school work. Whether it is before, during, or after assignments, it is important to take a break and take time for yourself. Self-care is essential for mental and physical well-being and will make college experiences enjoyable.
