Peer Mentors are in a variety of classes and can assist with your transition to college. They are a friendly ear that can listen and provide support. They do not do your homework, but they can help you understand the assignment or suggest ways that you may approach a professor.
Mentors outside of the classroom:
Mentors are available to speak with any SJSU student on a drop-in basis or by making an appointment. Topics that are often discussed include: struggling in your classes, relationships, homesickness, and many more. Peer Mentors have been extensively trained on campus resources and may refer you to more appropriate sources, however you know you will be assisted in getting to the right resource if needed. Peer Mentors are not professionally licensed counselors. They are students who have experienced many of the same struggles that you are currently facing. Students have shared that it was nice "having a sounding board when I was going through that situation." You may make an appointment by calling the Welcome Desk at 408-924-2587.
Please note that Peer Connections' policies do apply to mentoring sessions as well.
Feel free to tell us about your worries: we are here to listen!
