Welcome to Peer Connections
About Peer Connections
Peer Connections offers free mentoring, tutoring, and supplemental instruction services to undergraduate SJSU students. Our Peer Educators are SJSU students, just like you - they understand the challenges you may be facing, and will assist you to the best of their abilities.
Our Peer Educator program is nationally certified by the College Reading and Learning
Association (CRLA). Working at Peer Connections is an excellent way to gain leadership
Mentoring: Peer Mentors are guides to the university experience, and support your social and academic adjustment to life at SJSU. Peer Mentors can assist you with study skills, adjusting to life as a college student, getting connected on campus, finding campus resources, personal issues, and more.
Tutoring: Tutors support your individual learning in a particular course. Peer Tutors offer individual and drop-in tutoring for a number of undergraduate courses, as well as undergraduate and graduate-level writing.
Embedded Tutors are assigned to a specific course and attend every class session. Outside of class time, they hold "office hours" for tutoring. If your course has an Embedded Tutor, you'll know the first day of class!
Supplemental Instruction: Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leaders facilitate study groups for specific challenging courses. These sessions encourage deeper understanding of the content and get students interacting with each other in a fun, collaborative way of learning. If your course has an SI Leader, you'll know the first day of class!
Workshops: Every semester, Peer Connections offers workshops on a wide variety of topics including
time management, study skills, online learning, finals prep, and other related topics.
Peer Connections is located in the Student Services Center (SSC) 600, on the corner of 10th and San Fernando (inside the 10th Street parking garage building).
Our drop-in tutoring counter is in Clark Hall's Academic Success Center, on the first floor next to the computer lab.
We also provide tutoring services in the Spartan Study Hub (SSH; formerly the LLC) in Campus Village B during specified hours.
