All students using Peer Connections' services must follow these policies and guidelines. You may request a physical copy of these Agreements from any Peer Connections location.

  1. I will arrive to my Peer Connections session on time.

  2. Due to demand, appointments can fill quickly. If I know I will be late or need to cancel, I agree to call (408) 924-2587 as soon as possible, and at least 24 hours prior to my appointment, so someone else may use the appointment time.

  3. If I have 3 "no shows" (not showing up to the session, showing up more than 5 minutes late, or cancelling after 9:00am on the day of my appointment) or frequent cancellations, a temporary hold will be placed on making new appointments until I speak with a professional staff member.

  4. During sessions, my cell phone will be turned off.

  5. Food and drink are allowed in the Learning Commons. Food must be snacks or individually wrapped items; drinks must be in securely covered containers.

  6. When I use the Learning Commons or computers, I will swipe in when I arrive and swipe out when I leave.

    For Tutoring Sessions:

  7. To maximize the learning and retention of material, I may schedule 1 tutoring session per course each day. I can have up to 2 appointments in a single day if the appointments are for different subjects. When scheduling multiple appointments for the same day, I will give myself a minimum of a half-hour break between the appointments.

  8. I may schedule up to 3 sessions per course each week. If I need more time/sessions, I will speak to my tutor.

  9. I will be prepared for my tutoring session by attending class and taking notes to the best of my ability. I will read the content ahead of time, bring my notes and necessary material, and have questions for my tutor.

  10. When working with a writing tutor, I will bring a printout of my paper and the assignment to the session.

  11. I understand that my tutor will not do my homework, check every problem, or edit my papers. My tutor will assist me in understanding course concepts and developing more effective study skills and strategies (and writing skills, if appropriate) so that I may do the assignment and check my work independently.

  12. I understand that tutoring is not a substitute for attending class or visiting my professors' office hours.

    For Mentoring Sessions:

  13. My peer mentor is my guide to the SJSU experience. I understand that a peer mentor is not responsible for professional counseling or GE/major advising.

  14. I understand that while my peer mentor will offer appropriate guidance and referrals, it is my responsibility to take action.

  15. I understand that peer mentors do not provide tutoring services in course content.
